More support for members: Climate Alliance as an official Covenant Supporter
In September 2009, Climate Alliance has joined the group of Covenant of Mayors’ Supporting Structures composed of local authority networks as well as regional public administrations already engaged in relaying the initiative.
As part of its commitment, Climate Alliance:
- actively promotes the Covenant of Mayors initiative among its members,
- organises dedicated exchange of experience and know-how on the Covenant and its requirements,
- promotes replicable and successful actions of its members as a source of inspiration for other local authorities,
- provides specific advice for the implementation of local measures,
- Executes a project “Local Climate Change Policies” in cooperation with the Association of Energy-Efficient Cities of Ukraine to adapt and translate tools, like ECORegion and Climate Compass for the Ukrainian environment. Within this project, co-funded by the German Ministry for Environment, workshops, study tours and internships are also organized for Ukrainian municipalities and Covenant Signatories in Germany and Ukraine are brought together.
- provides relevant methods and tools and support to local authorities in applying them, namely:
- ECO2Region – an online CO2 monitoring tool
... as well as many other tools and campaigns
On the Covenant website you can also find Climate Alliance's profile as a supporting structure.
More than 60 Climate Alliance members (e.g. Aachen, Gent, Munich, The Hague, Eskilstuna, Nantes, Nürnberg, Rheinberg and Zürich) are already involved in the Covenant of Mayors and are working on their Action Plan. Many others are in the process of joining the Covenant!
