Dresden (Germany)
Dresden experienced with the devastating flood in the summer 2002 and the drought in the subsequent year two sides of the beginning climatic change.
A consequence of these disasters are increased expenditures in the climatic consequence precaution. However at the same time the damages in the catastrophe case seem to increase. A new thinking for contributing to a fundamental change in energy policy must start earlier – at the behaviour of the citizens. Here the project stands for an all-embracing approach: Technology-oriented solutions could be dominated by men, communication oriented solutions could rather be dominated by women.
Dresden participates in the Climate for Change project due to a decision of Mayor Ingolf Rossberg to link climate protection and gender equality issues. A pleasant side effect for the development of a citizens’ society would be, if many female inhabitants would show a higher interest in climate protection.
Apart from these new aspects the state capital Dresden will continue with its efforts existing for 10 years now to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases further. The results of the previous work in this field are summarised in the city's Second Report on Local Climate Protection.
