Frankfurt am Main (Germany)


The city of Frankfurt am Main is located in the centre of Germany and has 650.000 inhabitants. The main economical activities are the banking sector (European central bank, German central bank) and related services, chemical industry and the Frankfurt airport. Frankfurt has been founding member of the Climate Alliance in the year 1990.

Both within the department for education, environment and women, the Energiereferat and the Frauenreferat take part in the “Climate for Change” project. The Energiereferat is the municipal energy agency, it develops and implements projects and plans for local climate protection. The Frauenreferat – the agency for women affairs – develops and implements plans for women’s equal opportunities and gender affairs.

Based on decisions of the City Council and the City Parliament for Climate Protection and Gender Mainstreaming, Frankfurt takes part in the “Climate for Change” project.
