Union of the Baltic Cities
UBC, Union of the Baltic Cities with its 104 member cities around the Baltic Sea is committed to strengthen cooperation and exchange of experience among the cities and to contribute to democratic, social, economic and environmentally friendly development in the Region.
The UBC Commission on Environment and the Agenda 21 Working Group are the UBC bodies for environmental and Agenda 21 co-operation. The aim of the Commission is to serve the cities in sustainable development and environmental management. In practice, the work is being carried out by representing the member cities in international sustainable development processes, by carrying out projects, and by organising network services for members.
All the way from the start of the organisation gender issues have been an important part of the organisation's agenda and a Women’s network is working actively with the issues. Gender issues are also mainstreamed into all events, programmes and projects that the UBC EnvCom is carrying out.
For the UBC EnvCom it is very interesting to take part in the Climate for Change project and do something concrete as well as strengthen the Commission's work with gender issues.
